Why Propane

TECHNOLOGY FOR OUR TIME.

Today, virtually all of Florida’s 20,000 school buses run on diesel fuel. Many have been on the road for more than a decade. They are expensive to run and fix. About three quarters of Florida’s buses also fail to meet current Clean Air standards. New propane buses based on new American technology and American fuels are cheaper to run. They are cheaper to fix. And they are better for our children’s health and our environment. It is a technology for our time.

Benefits

CLEANER AIR. CLEARER WATER.

Go into a warehouse, store or factory, and you will see propane forklifts moving things. Indoors! It is because propane is a clean, safe fuel. You would never see a car or truck of any kind, diesel or gas, do that. Yet 20,000 school buses rummage through our streets, idle in our school yards, spewing diesel fumes that the U.S. EPA says “can lead to serious health conditions like asthma and allergies, especially in… children.” New propane buses eliminate the risk of small particulate matter. They reduce nitrous oxide emissions, a gas which harms our bays and waterways. And they reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Savings

NEW BUSES CAN PAY FOR THEMSELVES

Florida’s aging fleet of diesel school buses adds up to big bills for fuel, parts and repairs. Leading school districts with new propane buses are saving $.40 per mile because propane autogas cost three times less than diesel. Plus new propane buses are cheaper to repair and operate and they last longer. Add to this extended warranties on new buses, and propane buses dramatically cut school district costs. It means that school districts can put more taxpayer dollars into the classroom instead of on the road.
